2 more die of dengue, 395 hospitalized in 24hrs

In the past 24 hours, dengue fever has claimed two more lives in Bangladesh, while 395 new patients have been hospitalized nationwide. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the updated figures in a press statement on Monday (August 4).

According to the release, the latest fatalities occurred in Barishal and Chattogram divisions, with one death reported from each. Among the newly hospitalized patients, 232 are from outside Dhaka and 163 are from the capital.

The division-wise breakdown of hospital admissions shows 58 in Barishal, 61 in Chattogram, 69 in Dhaka Division (excluding city corporations), 34 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 50 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 6 in Mymensingh, 56 in Khulna, 48 in Rajshahi, 9 in Rangpur, and 4 in Sylhet.

The DGHS data also revealed that in the first four days of August, a total of 1,085 people have been hospitalized due to dengue, with 3 deaths reported. In July, dengue claimed 41 lives — the highest monthly toll this year — followed by 19 deaths in June. Other monthly death counts include 10 in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, and 3 in May. No dengue-related deaths were recorded in March.

July recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year, with 10,684 hospitalizations.

Earlier monthly figures show 1,161 hospitalizations in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, and 5,951 in June.
