Barrister Fuad among two candidates appeal to EC for security
Ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections, two prospective candidates have formally requested the Election Commission (EC) to ensure their safety and that of their campaign teams.
The applicants are Kazi Reha Kabir Sigma, an independent candidate for Kishoreganj-4, and Asaduzzaman Fuad, general secretary of the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party and potential candidate for Barishal-3 (Babuganj-Muladi).
Both submitted separate written appeals at the Election Commission Secretariat on Wednesday (December 17).
Kazi Reha Kabir Sigma met with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin and other commissioners, citing threats to his lawful campaign activities. Sigma alleged that a section of police in Astagram Thana of Kishoreganj, has been obstructing his outreach efforts and creating an atmosphere of fear.
She further claimed that on the night of December 16, one of his campaign workers, Md. Kiamat Ali, was arrested on a fabricated case, causing panic among his team and disrupting his campaign. Sigma demanded a thorough investigation, legal action against perpetrators, and EC intervention to ensure free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, Asaduzzaman Fuad also approached the EC, expressing concerns over his personal safety and the overall electoral environment, and urged authorities to guarantee necessary security measures.
