2 SUST students detained over alleged rape and video recording
Police have detained two students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in connection with the alleged rape of a female student and the recording of the incident.
The accused, Shanto Tara Adnan and Swagato Dash Partha, are both third-year students from the university's Department of Sociology.
According to Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), one of the students was apprehended on the university campus, while the other was arrested in the Surma residential area around 9:30 PM on Thursday.
The incident reportedly took place on May 2. In the complaint filed by the victim, she stated that she was taken to a residence in the Surma area, where she was allegedly drugged and raped. The perpetrators are also accused of filming the assault.
Following an initial investigation and interrogation, the university’s proctorial team handed over the two suspects to law enforcement.
A case has been filed under Section 9(3) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, along with Sections 8(1), 8(2), and 8(3) of the Pornography Control Act, ADC Saiful confirmed.
