2 teenagers drown in Mahananda river in Chapainawabganj

Two youths have died after drowning while bathing in the Mahananda river in Chapainawabganj. The incident took place around noon on Sunday, September 27, in the Diar Dhainagar area of Gobratola union of Sadar upazila.

The deceased are Sujon (18), son of Abdur Rahim of Mahipur Bhatopara village in Sadar upazila, and Sabbir Ahmed (19), son of Subahan of the same area.

According to local residents, Sujon and Sabbir went to bathe in the Mahananda river around noon. After a while, they drowned. Realising this, local people entered the river and began searching for them.

Later, locals rescued the two and brought them to the riverbank. However, by then they had died. Afterwards, relatives took the bodies of the two youths to their respective homes.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ekramul Hossain confirmed the incident. He said two youths died after drowning while bathing in the Mahananda river. Police went to the scene after receiving the news. Legal procedures are ongoing over the incident.
