2 teenagers injured by gunfire from Myanmar in Teknaf
Two teenagers were shot while fishing in the Naf River along the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar. Locals claim they were hit by gunfire from the Arakan Army.
The injured are Md. Sohel, 16, son of Sheikh Kamal, and Md. Obaidullah, 17, son of Md. Yunus, both from Kanjorpara in the Hwaikyang Union. They are currently receiving treatment at the MSF Hospital in Ukhiya.
Fisherman Iman Hossain said that while fishing in a boat around noon, 10–15 bullets were fired from the Myanmar border side, resulting in injuries to Sohel and Obaidullah. Locals quickly rescued them and took them to MSF Hospital in Kutupalong.
SI Khokon Kanti Rudra confirmed receiving reports of the two fishermen being shot in the Naf River and said the matter is under investigation.
Earlier, on January 12, 11-year-old Sumaiya Huzifa was injured by gunfire from the Arakan Army in the same area. The next day, January 13, a local youth, Abu Hanif, 26, lost his left leg in a mine explosion inside Bangladesh.
