2 tourists, resort owner rescued after abducting from Sundarbans
Law enforcement authorities have rescued a resort owner and two tourists who were kidnapped in the Sundarbans on Friday over a ransom demand, police and Coast Guard officials confirmed on Sunday night (January 4).
Md. Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dacope Police Station, said, "The victims were recovered in good health. A Coast Guard press briefing will to provide further details."
According to police, five tourists from Dhaka had visited Golkanon Resort in Dangmari of the upazila, on January 2. While touring Kanurkhola Canal under the Chandpai range of the Sundarbans with the resort owner in the afternoon, they were abducted by a gang led by a forest bandit named Masum.
The abductors released two female tourists and two boat crew members, but took the resort owner, Sripati Bachhar, along with tourists Sohel and Joni. A ransom of Tk 40 lakh was subsequently demanded from the resort owner’s family.
A joint operation by the Coast Guard, river police, and local police led to the successful rescue of all three victims on Sunday night.
