20 admitted, 1 dies with Measles symptoms in Rajshahi in 24 hrs
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has reported a sharp rise in measles cases, with 20 new admissions and one death recorded in the past 24 hours.
As of 12:00pm Thursday (April 2), a total of 132 patients with suspected measles were undergoing treatment at the hospital. During the same period, four patients were discharged after recovery.
Hospital spokesperson Dr. Shankar K. Biswas confirmed the information to journalists, stating that since the beginning of March, a total of 340 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to the facility. All cases are initially categorised as “suspected,” as confirmation tests are time-consuming and currently unavailable in Rajshahi.
He added that one child’s death from confirmed measles has been recorded at the hospital in the past month.
Hospital sources said the highest number of cases in the Rajshahi division has been reported in Chapainawabganj, followed by Naogaon, Natore, and Pabna. Patients from Kushtia and Meherpur in Khulna division, as well as Rajbari and Faridpur in Dhaka division, are also receiving treatment at the hospital.
Dr. Biswas warned that if the number of patients continues to rise, the hospital will expand its isolation capacity to manage the situation.
