20 injured in head-on truck collision in Jhenaidah
At least 20 people were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah. Several of the injured are in critical condition, hospital sources said.
The accident occurred around 9pm on Monday, August 31, in the Eidgah area of Baripara village in the upazila on the Garaganj-Shailkupa road.
According to police and locals, 30 young men from the indigenous Bagdi community of Kachua village in the upazila had gone to Srabaria village in Chuadanga to play football. After the match, they were returning home in a mini-truck. When they reached the Baripara area, a sand-laden drum truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and hit their vehicle. At least 20 people were injured. Among them, 19 were taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, while the others received treatment locally.
Dr Ehte Sham Shahid, a physician at the emergency department of Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, said the injured were receiving treatment. After monitoring the critically injured, they would be referred to other hospitals if necessary.
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir Mollah said the injured had received treatment. Currently, 16 people are admitted to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex.
He further said the two trucks involved in the accident were lying by the roadside. Legal action would be taken in this regard.
