Twenty of 22 assistant teacher candidates in Mymensingh, whose appointments were stalled due to a National Security Intelligence (NSI) report, have finally received appointment letters. They were given appointment letters at midnight on Wednesday, September 30, after a day-long hunger strike.

On Thursday, October 1, the final appointment letters of the 20 candidates, signed by Mymensingh District Primary Education Officer Shafiqul Islam, were published on the District Education Office's website. While this ended a long uncertainty and brought relief, uncertainty remains over the appointment of the remaining two candidates.

Earlier, the appointments of these 22 primary assistant teacher candidates in Mymensingh district were stalled after negative information came up in an NSI report, despite their names being on the final list. After a long wait without receiving appointment letters, they began a hunger strike unto death at the District Primary Education Office from 11:15am on Wednesday.

One of the hunger strikers, Kazi Anik of Fulpur, said after receiving the appointment letter that the appointment letters were published on the website at midnight. "We are happy to receive the appointment letters. We will join today."

However, Zahid Hasan of Gafargaon did not receive an appointment letter. He said he had been trying to find out all day why they were not given appointment letters. "I was not in any political post or position. Yet I do not know why I did not get the appointment letter."

In this regard, Mymensingh District Primary Education Officer Shafiqul Islam told the media that 20 people were given appointment letters on Wednesday night on the instructions of higher authorities. No decision has yet come regarding the remaining two. The 20 who received appointment letters will join today (Thursday).
