200 hawkers get QR code smart cards
The organization has rehabilitated about 200 hawkers in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area in the initial phase. Hawkers from Mirpur-10 area have been shifted to Mirpur-13 opposite the BRTA office and hawkers from Mirpur-1 area to Gabtoli Raw Market, said DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan.
He gave this information at the inauguration ceremony of distributing digital identity cards among hawkers and transferring them to designated locations at Nagar Bhaban on Thursday afternoon (April 30).
The administrator said, "The resettled locations have been determined in such a way that there is no traffic jam and hawkers can conduct business comfortably."
He said that their designated business locations can be identified by scanning the QR code on the digital identity cards given to hawkers. He expressed hope that this will stop irregularities and extortion. He also urged the city corporation to immediately report anyone who tries to extort money.
Shafiqul Islam Khan said, "Earlier, there was a plan to rehabilitate hawkers in six fields in North City, but the decision has been changed as they are suitable for playing. In the long term, plans are being made for a permanent solution to hawkers and a permanent hawkers' market will be built."
He claimed that no force was used in the eviction process; rather, the entire process was completed while maintaining humane treatment of hawkers.
