An SSC exam was conducted using the wrong question paper at the Kanchan Omar Ali High School centre in Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj. After the error was detected, the exam was rescheduled with new question papers and an additional one and a half hours of time.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 21.

Students said that after the exam began at 10:00 am, 177 students in three rooms were given the 2025 question paper. They informed the teachers on duty, but no action was taken initially. Around 11:30 am, the question paper was replaced with the 2026 version, and the time was extended by one and a half hours. However, students alleged that their answer scripts were collected before the extended time had elapsed, even though extra time had been granted.

Parents have blamed centre secretary Motin Sarkar for the negligence. They questioned who would be held responsible if students' futures are compromised and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved.

Two examinees of Sinha High School alleged that although they repeatedly informed the teachers, they were not taken seriously. New question papers were given after one and a half hours, but only one hour and 25 minutes were added.

Motin Sarkar, head teacher of Kanchan Omar Ali High School and centre secretary, said the 2025 question paper was given by mistake. It was later corrected, and the exam was conducted with the 2026 question paper with extended time.

Sonargaon Upazila Executive Officer Asif Al Jinat said the time was extended after consulting the chairman of the Dhaka Education Board. The centre secretary has already been removed from his duty in connection with the incident.
