As the holidays begin at factories in the industrial area of Gazipur, a flood of people heading home has come. This has created a long traffic jam of about 20 kilometers in the surrounding areas, including the Chandra Trimor on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

The condition of the highway has further deteriorated since Monday afternoon (May 25). The pressure of passengers has been increasing since the morning, and the situation has become more complicated after the afternoon when several factories were closed. The suffering of passengers has also increased due to the rain.

It is known that traffic jams have been created for about 10 kilometers from Kodda to Chandra on the Dhaka-Tangail highway and another 10 kilometers to Kabirpur on the Chandra-Nabinagar highway. At the same time, the pressure of vehicles has also increased in the Tongi, Board Bazar, Bhogra, Chowrasta, Rajendrapur and Maona areas of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

Local sources said that in addition to Gazipur, thousands of workers and passengers from Savar, Ashulia and Narayanganj are leaving for the north and south via Gazipur. This has further increased the pressure on the highway.

Passengers complain that even though there is no shortage of vehicles, additional fares are being charged. Many have complained that they are being charged several times more than the normal fare.

Naojor Highway Police Station OC Saugatul Alam said that the police are working to ensure smooth Eid journey. However, due to factory holidays, the passenger pressure has increased and this pressure may continue until Eid. Currently, there is a traffic jam of several kilometers in Chandra and its surrounding areas.
