23 detained on suspicion of militancy in capital

Police have detained 23 people on suspicion of militancy while they were holding a secret meeting in the Tejgaon College area of Farmgate in the capital. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said they were detained in a raid conducted based on intelligence information.

A senior official of the DMP's Tejgaon division confirmed the matter to the media around 4:15pm on Friday, September 18.

The police official said a secret meeting was being held in the Tejgaon College area. Based on intelligence information, a raid was conducted there and 23 people were detained.

He said verification of the detainees is underway. After verification, action will be taken against them as per the law.

Police did not immediately disclose details about the identities of the detainees, which organisation they are affiliated with, or the purpose of the meeting.
