2,450 MT of Indian rice arrive via Darshana Railway Port

The first consignment of 2,450 tons of rice imported from India has arrived in Bangladesh via the Darshana Railway Port in Chuadanga.

The rice arrived in Bangladesh from India in 42 wagons through the Darshana Railway Port around 10:30pm on Tuesday (January 14).

Majumder Agrotech International Limited, based in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, imported the rice at a rate of $490 per ton. The exporter was Souvik Export Limited, located at 7/1 Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata, confirmed Atiyar Rahman Habu, general secretary of the C&F Agent Association of Darshana Port.

Earlier, Atiyar Rahman Habu welcomed Indian Railways Director Sagatam Bala with a bouquet of flowers.

Mirza Kamrul Hasan, manager of Darshana International Railway Station, said, "After customs inspection and duty payment, the rice will be booked for Ishwardi and Sirajganj. From there, the importer will transport it by truck."

Bangladesh government will import 159,000 metric tons of rice from India.
