24-hour measles death toll rises by 9, total death 424

At least nine more died from measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday (May 12).

Of the latest deaths, three were confirmed measles cases, while six others died with symptoms associated with the disease, a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room said.

With the new fatalities, the total death toll linked to the outbreak has risen to 424, including 68 confirmed measles deaths and 356 suspected deaths involving measles symptoms over the past two months.

Data analysis by the health authorities showed that since March 15, a total of 7,024 people have been confirmed infected with measles nationwide, while another 51,567 people have shown symptoms of the disease.

According to the directorate, 36,881 patients with measles symptoms have so far been admitted to hospitals across the country since the outbreak began. During the same period, 32,877 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
