25 injured in clash, gunfire over meat sharing dispute

A clash and shooting took place between two groups over meat sharing in Kalia, Narail. At least 25 people were injured in this. Police have arrested 14 people in this incident. The two parties had been in a dispute over dominance for a long time.

The clash took place at around 8:30pm in Noagram, Purulia Union of the upazila. Inspector (Investigation) of Kalia Police Station Md. Hasanul Kabir confirmed the truth of the incident on Monday (March 23).

According to police and local sources, there was a long-standing dispute between the Sheikh and Molya clans over dominance in Noagram. Tensions between the two parties were renewed due to a dispute over meat sharing on Eid day. In continuation of this, the two parties got involved in a clash with local weapons on Monday night. Shotgun fire occurred at this time. At least 25 people from both sides were injured.

The injured in the clash are Mahabur Molya, 40, Ramzan Molya, 55, Mintu Molya, 52, Nahid Molya, 21, Tutul Molya, 30, Shahidul Molya, 48, Raja Molya, 50, Badhan Molya, 26, Tamim Molya, 19, Suman Molya, 28, and Ajanur Sheikh, 18. They have been admitted to Narail District Hospital and various hospitals in Khulna.

Alok Kumar Bagchi, a doctor from the emergency department of Narail District Hospital, said that 14 people have been treated at the district hospital in the clash in Kalia. Bullet fragments were found on their bodies. We have given them the necessary treatment, and everyone is out of danger now.

Assistant Superintendent of Police of Narail District Police Robin Halder said that after receiving the information, the police quickly went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is currently calm. Fourteen people have been arrested in a raid on charges of involvement in the incident. The process of taking further legal action is underway.
