A two-and-a-half-year-old toddler tragically drowned after falling into flash floodwaters that breached his family home in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar. The incident was triggered by continuous torrential rainfall and upstream runoff from the Matamuhuri River.

The incident took place at the residence of one Sultan Ahmad in Maij Kakara village, located under Ward No. 4 of Kakara Union—a low-lying area highly vulnerable to the Matamuhuri River's flow on Thursday (July 9) afternoon.

The deceased child has been identified as Mohammad Wakim, the only child of Sultan Ahmad from Maijpara village. The tragedy has cast a deep shroud of mourning over his family and the entire neighborhood.

Former Chairman of Kakara Union Parishad, Md. Shahab Uddin, confirmed the veracity of the incident.

He noted that village after village has been submerged under several feet of water due to the severe flooding, warning that such tragic accidents will continue to occur unless families remain extremely vigilant about the safety of children and the elderly during this crisis.
