26 more children admitted to MMCH with measles symptoms, 14 to RMCH
Hospitals in Mymensingh and Rajshahi have alarming surge in admissions of children with measles-like symptoms over the past 24 hours, according to health officials.
At Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), 26 new children were admitted with suspected measles symptoms to its measles isolation ward in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of currently hospitalised children to 91.
Among the new cases, two critically ill children were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced care.
Focal person of the hospital’s measles medical team, Associate Professor Dr Md Golam Mawla, said a total of 541 children have been admitted since March 17 with suspected measles symptoms. Of them, 437 have recovered and been discharged, while 13 deaths have been reported.
Hospital Assistant Director (Administration) Dr Md Moinuddin Khan said three medical teams are actively managing treatment in the isolation ward, with doctors and nurses providing continuous care to affected children.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) reported 14 new admissions with suspected measles symptoms during the reporting period, hospital spokesperson Dr Shankar K Biswas said on Friday (April 17).
He confirmed that no new deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
During the same period, 24 children recovered and were discharged. Currently, 135 children are receiving treatment for suspected measles at the hospital.
So far, RMCH has admitted a total of 627 suspected cases, with 51 reported deaths.
Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation as hospitals continue to manage a steady influx of suspected cases.
