28 Bangladeshi universities featured in THE world rankings 2026
Bangladesh has made its mark in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, with 28 universities from the country earning spots on the global list. The rankings, released Thursday, evaluate universities worldwide based on education quality, research impact, citations, student-to-faculty ratio, and internationalization.
No Bangladeshi university made it into the top 800 this year. However, five universities are ranked between 801 and 1000: Daffodil International University, Gazipur Agricultural University, Jahangirnagar University, North South University, and Dhaka University. Dhaka University has notably climbed from the 1001–1200 band in 2025 to this year’s 801–1000 range.
Six universities are ranked between 1001 and 1200: Bangladesh Agricultural University, BUET, BRAC University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and Rajshahi University. Another six fall in the 1201–1500 range, including American International University-Bangladesh, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, and Chittagong University.
Two institutions—East West University and the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST)—are placed after 1500. Additionally, nine universities are listed as “reporters,” including Bangladesh University of Professionals, Independent University Bangladesh, United International University, and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
Globally, the rankings cover 3,118 universities. Oxford University tops the list, followed by MIT, with Princeton University and Cambridge University sharing third place.
