Police arrested three individuals directly involved in the murder of former councilor Tipu in front of the Sea-Gull Hotel, near Cox’s Bazar beach. Firearms have been recovered from their possession.

Mohammad Rahmat Ullah, Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police, confirmed the matter on Tuesday (January 14).

While Rahmat Ullah mentioned that the three suspects are from Khulna, he did not disclose the time of their arrest or their identities immediately.

He said, "Two suspects have already been arrested on Friday in connection with the murder, bringing the total number of arrests to five."

Former councillor Golam Rabbani Tipu was reportedly shot and killed by assailants on the sidewalk in front of Sea-Gull Hotel on Thursday night. The next day, Tipu's brother-in-law, Yunus Ali Sheikh, filed a murder case at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station against unidentified suspects.

According to the police, on Thursday morning, Tipu and two others checked into the Golden Hill Hotel in Cox’s Bazar's Kalatali area. CCTV footage from the hotel’s reception shows Tipu, along with a woman, leaving the hotel around 6:30 pm. Later, at approximately 8:30 pm, Tipu was shot dead by assailants on the sidewalk in front of Sea-Gull Hotel.
