3 arrested over killing of Jamaat activist

Police have arrested three people in the murder case of Jamaat activist Hafizur Rahman, who was killed in a clash between BNP and Jamaat in Jibannagar in Chuadanga.

Jibannagar police station, district detective branch (DB) and district police cyber crime unit arrested them in separate operations on March 1 and 2.

The arrested people are Hasadah Union Swechhasebak Dal president Mehedi Hasan, his father BNP activist Jasim Uddin and Hasadah Union BNP general secretary Md. Abdus Salam.

Jibannagar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Solaiman said that Jasim Uddin and Abdus Salam were arrested under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code and sent to court on Monday (March 2).

Earlier, at least six people were injured in a clash between BNP and Jamaat leaders and activist in Hasadah Bazar area due to a previous dispute last Saturday night. Jamaat leader Hafizur Rahman, who was seriously injured, died at midnight while being taken to Dhaka.
