Three Bangladeshi youths have returned home after serving one-year prison terms in Kerala of India.

On Tuesday night (March 31), India's Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to Bangladesh authorities at the Benapole checkpoint.

The successful repatriation was the result of coordinated efforts by the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, and the West Bengal Taskforce on Prevention of Women and Child Trafficking.

The returnees are Ramzan Mallik from Kolinagar village, Jaber Hossain from Gobindapur, and Asaduzzaman Gazi, all of Shyamnagar Thana in Satkhira. They had entered India illegally at different times and, lured by promises of better employment, traveled to Kerala. Authorities in Kerala later arrested them for illegal residency and sentenced them to one year in prison.

After completing their sentence, the youths were placed in a safe house in Kerala, their citizenship verified, and travel permits issued for their return.

Benapole Immigration Inspector Syed Mortaza confirmed that after completing all formalities, they were handed over to local police and reunited with their families.
