3 bodies including a child found in Narayanganj flat
Police have recovered the bodies of a man, his wife, and their four-year-old son from a rented flat in the Baburail Boubazar area of Narayanganj city.
The bodies were discovered around 5:30pm after police broke open the locked door on Monday (September 15).
The deceased were identified as Habibullah Shiplu, 35, his wife Mohini Akter Mim, 25, and their son Afran. The family had been living on the fourth floor of a seven-storey building. Shiplu’s ancestral home is in Dabiran village under Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehedi confirmed the recovery. He said, "Preliminary findings suggest Shiplu strangled his wife and son before taking his own life by hanging."
According to police, upon entering the flat, Shiplu was found hanging from a ceiling fan, while his wife and son were discovered unconscious on a bed with pillows covering their faces.
Investigators said Shiplu had been serving as the manager of an association called Ramzan Samity, which shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic after its owner embezzled large sums of customer deposits and fled. Shiplu, facing lawsuits from aggrieved clients and reportedly under severe mental stress, is believed to have been struggling with depression.
ASP Tarek Al Mehedi said, “We suspect he took this step out of depression, but confirmation will depend on the autopsy and further investigation. We are looking at all possible angles.”
Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Nasir Uddin added, “We are investigating the matter seriously to determine whether it was suicide or a planned murder.”
