3 children drown in field water in Pabna

Three children have drowned in rainwater accumulated in a field beside their homes in Dashpara village of Nabin Bazar area in Chartarapur union of Pabna Sadar upazila.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday, September 11. The deceased are Sumi Khatun (7), daughter of Shimul Mollik of Dashpara village, and Khalid Hossain (8) and Afia Khatun (6), son and daughter of Md Ashraful Islam of the same village. All three were students of a local kindergarten.

Locals said the children went down into the accumulated rainwater in the field beside their homes to bathe in the afternoon. At one point, one of them first drowned. While trying to rescue that child, the other two drowned one after another.

Later, locals rescued the three children and rushed them towards Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex. However, they died on the way to the hospital.

After news of the three children's deaths spread, a pall of mourning descended on the area. The atmosphere became heavy with the wails of the bereaved families.

Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam confirmed the incident and said police were sent to the scene after receiving the news.
