3 children poisoned to death by father in Sunamganj

Three children have died after their father allegedly fed them poison before consuming the substance himself in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.

The incident took place in Rajni Line village under Uttar Baradal Union in the early hours of Saturday, September 19.

According to police and local sources, the father allegedly gave poison to his three children and then consumed it himself sometime during the night. In the morning, neighbours and relatives noticed the incident and rushed them to Dr Hafiz Uddin Complex in Badaghat Bazar.

The attending doctor examined the children and declared all three dead. As the father's condition was critical, he was referred to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

Hossain Mohammad Arafat, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badaghat Police Investigation Centre, confirmed the incident, saying police went to the hospital after receiving the information early in the morning and found the bodies of the three children there.

The bodies are being taken to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex for autopsy, he added.
