3 dead after lorry runs over auto-rickshaw in Ashulia

Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed after a lorry ran over an auto-rickshaw in Ashulia, Savar. Another person was injured in the accident. The lorry driver fled immediately after the crash.

The incident took place around 9:30 PM near Baipail Central Mosque on the Nabinnagar-Chandra highway. According to police and eyewitnesses, the auto-rickshaw was traveling on the wrong side towards Dhaka EPZ when it hit a pothole, overturned, and got crushed under the rear wheel of an oncoming lorry.

One person died instantly at the scene. The injured — including the rickshaw driver, a woman, and a child — were rushed to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital, where two later died.

Eyewitness Liton Ahmed said the rickshaw overturned in front of him after falling into the pothole and was crushed by the lorry’s wheel.

Savar Highway Police Inspector Saleh Ahmed confirmed the deaths and said locals blocked the road in protest after the accident but were later persuaded by police to clear it.

The driver of the lorry remains at large.
