Three inmates sentenced to death attempted to escape from the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur. To do so, they had been digging through the wall using various materials they had gathered. Upon discovering the plan, prison authorities conducted a search of the inmates' cell and confiscated the tools. Following the incident, on Thursday night, the prison’s Deputy Jailer Asadur Rahman filed a case with the Konabari Police Station.

According to prison officials, the incident came to light on the night of August 5, when Assistant Chief Guard Mokhlesur Rahman heard suspicious noises coming from Room No. 12 on the ground floor of the Tamal Building. Acting on his report, a search was conducted in the room the following morning.

During the search, officials recovered several items believed to have been used in the escape plan. These included a 28-foot rope and a 25-foot belt, both made from torn blankets, two iron rods, a metal sheet, two iron rings, a 10-foot pole, and other improvised tools.

The inmates involved in the attempted escape were identified as Shahadat Hossain of Choubaria, Tangail; Roni Mohonto of Majhina, Joypurhat; and Nazrul Islam Mojnu of Diyadanga, Kurigram. All three are convicted murderers and have been sentenced to death.

During preliminary interrogation, the inmates admitted to collecting the materials over time to aid in a potential escape. They stated that they were preparing for an opportunity and would have attempted to flee if the conditions had allowed.

Following the discovery, jail superintendent Asadur Rahman filed a formal complaint at Konabari Police Station on Thursday night. Officer-in-Charge Md. Salahuddin confirmed the filing of the case and stated that a full investigation is underway.

“The matter is being taken very seriously. Legal action is being pursued based on the findings,” said OC Salahuddin.

Authorities are now reviewing internal security protocols to prevent future incidents of this nature at the high-security facility.
