3 family members injured in acid attack in Jashore
Three members of a family, including an eight-year-old boy, were injured in an acid attack at their home in the Godkhali area of Jashore’s Jhikargacha upazila on Thursday night.
The attack took place around 9:00pm when acid was thrown through a window into the house, according to police. The victims — a mother, her young son, and daughter — are currently being treated at Jashore General Hospital.
Medical Officer Dr. Zubair Ahmed said the boy suffered serious burns to his legs and other parts of his body and remains in critical condition. The mother and daughter also sustained injuries and are under close observation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Noor-e-Alam Siddique said law enforcement officials visited the victims and the crime scene shortly after the incident.
The victims' father filed a case with Jhikargacha Police Station earlier today. Jashimuddin, 22, of Mathbari village, has been named as the sole accused.
“Efforts are underway to arrest him,” ASP Siddique said.
Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials confirmed that a team from RAB-6 responded immediately and began an investigation. “A drive is ongoing to detain the suspect,” said Squadron Leader Md Russell, Commander of RAB’s Jashore unit.
Speaking to the media, the injured daughter alleged that the suspect had been harassing and threatening her for a long time. She claimed her family was targeted and has appealed for justice and legal protection.
The investigation is ongoing.
