3 Housing Directorate officials suspended
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has temporarily suspended three officials of the Directorate of Housing on charges of irregularities in government housing allocation, bribery, and corruption.
The suspended officials are Deputy Director Rashed Ahmed Sadi, Assistant Director Bilal Hossain, and Assistant Accountant Md. Nazrul Islam.
In a press release on Friday (September 19), the ministry said the decision was taken for recommending government housing allocations without considering job grade and basic salary, demanding large bribes from applicants for D-1 and D-2 category houses, and committing irregularities during the housing allocation meeting held on September 7 this year, along with other acts of corruption and misconduct.
A gazette notification issued the previous day (Thursday) stated that Deputy Director Rashed Ahmed was accused of amassing a huge amount of money and immovable assets through a syndicate involved in government housing allocation.
The notification also said the officials might engage in further criminal activities and influence the investigation process if allowed to remain in service.
The ministry added that during their suspension, they will receive subsistence allowance as per regulations.
