3, including children, killed as train crashes in Chattogram
At least three people, including children, were killed in a train accident late Thursday night (June 5) when a Cox’s Bazar-bound Parjatan Express train collided with multiple vehicles on Kalurghat Bridge in Chattogram. Several others were critically injured.
The incident took place around 10:15pm as the Parjatan Express was crossing the Kalurghat Bridge.
According to the eyewitnesses, the train plowed into a CNG autorickshaw, a microbus, a motorcycle, and several other vehicles near the Kalurghat rail crossing. The autorickshaw was crushed and dragged under the train, causing instant fatalities.
Graphic video footage circulating on social media shows the mangled remains of a CNG autorickshaw and a motorcycle trapped under the front of the train. In the footage, distressed locals are seen desperately trying to rescue survivors, including a man carrying an unconscious child while others search for his mother, reportedly crushed beneath the wreckage.
Authorities confirmed the death toll shortly after the incident. “Three people were declared dead on the spot. Five others with serious injuries have been admitted to the casualty ward of Chattogram Medical College Hospital,” said Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder of the CMCH Police Outpost.
The Parjatan Express had departed from Cox’s Bazar at 7:30pm and was heading toward Chattogram when the crash occurred. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
