3 killed, 20 injured as bus, dump truck collide in Gopalganj

Three people were killed and at least 20 others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a dump truck in Gopalganj.

The accident took place around noon in the Boultali area of Sadar upazila on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway on Tuesday (August 18).

Police said a Sonali Paribahan bus was travelling towards Gopalganj from Tekerhat when it collided head-on with an oncoming dump truck at Boultali. The impact left the bus badly mangled before it plunged into a roadside ditch, while the truck overturned on the highway.

Three people died at the scene. Police could not immediately identify the deceased.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital for treatment.

Shafiul Alam, in-charge of the Boultali Police Outpost, confirmed the deaths and injuries, adding that details of the crash were being investigated.
