3 killed as pickup truck overturns in Rangamati

Three people were killed and three others injured after a pickup truck carrying small traders overturned in Rangamati’s Manikchhari area early Sunday (August 16).

The accident took place around 5:30am as the traders were travelling to a weekly market in the area. The pickup reportedly lost control and overturned, leaving three passengers dead at the scene.

The deceased were identified as Meghrani Chakma, 45, of Meghranichhara in Naniarchar; Shantana Chakma, 38, of Amanatbagh in Rangamati town; and Shanti Ranjan Chakma, 65, of Bijoy Nagar.

The injured were identified as Shova Chakma, 52, pickup driver Gyan Bikash Chakma, 50, and Suman Chakma, 45. Suman was later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The bodies have been kept at a hospital morgue. All six people involved in the accident were small traders, according to local sources.

Dr Shawkat Akbar, resident physician at Rangamati General Hospital, said the victims were taken to the hospital, where three were declared dead. The three injured are receiving treatment.

Md Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, said, "Legal proceedings were underway."
