3 killed as standing bus hit on expressway

Three people have been killed in an incident of another bus hitting a bus that was standing due to mechanical fault from behind on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar of Madaripur. At least 10 passengers of the two buses have been seriously injured in this accident.

The accident took place in Bakherkandi area adjacent to Panchchar of the expressway around 4pm on Friday (September 25).

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Shibchar Highway Police Station Muntasir Rahman informed that getting the news of the accident police went to the scene and recovered the bodies of three people. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Work is under way to identify them.

According to the versions of police and locals, a bus of Palki Paribahan going from Khulna to Dhaka was standing on the side of the road due to mechanical fault. At that time a bus of Hanif Paribahan going to Dhaka came from behind and hit the standing bus hard.

In the collision three passengers of the standing Palki Paribahan bus died on the spot. At least 10 more passengers of the two buses were seriously injured in the accident. Later with the help of locals the injured were rescued and taken to the local hospital and they are being treated there.

After the accident slow movement of vehicles was created in that area for some time. Police are working to confirm the cause of the accident and the identities of the killed and injured.
