3 killed as truck rams CNG-run autorickshaw in Mymensingh
Three female passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed after a truck rammed into the vehicle in Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh.
The accident took place around 11:45am at the Kumaragata Samitighar area on the Mymensingh–Tangail highway on Monday (May 4).
According to eyewitnesses and police, a sand-laden truck travelling towards Mymensingh rammed into a Muktagachha-bound CNG auto-rickshaw. The impact left the auto-rickshaw severely damaged and caused the truck to overturn on the road.
Three women passengers in the autorickshaw died instantly at the scene. The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
The truck driver, his assistant, and the CNG driver were rescued from the spot and sent to the hospital for treatment.
Fire service officials said they recovered the bodies after receiving information through the national emergency service 999.
“Ahead-on collision between the truck and CNG caused multiple fatalities. The bodies have been handed over to police,” said Mosharraf Hossain, team leader of the local fire service.
Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Muktagachha Police Station, said, "Police rushed to the scene and carried out rescue operations. A crane was brought in from Mymensingh to remove the overturned truck."
