3 killed, dozens hurt in Magura road crash

A tragic road accident on the Magura-Jhenaidah Highway claimed three lives and injured 15 others on Sunday afternoon.

The crash occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus operated by Golden Line Paribahan collided head-on with a battery-run van near Ramnagar area in Magura Sadar upazila.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Sagor, 30, the van driver from Gouricharanpur village, and Resham Khatun, 35, a passenger from Doramtona village, both residents of Sadar upazila.

Among the injured are Tania (20), Sohag (27), Samsul (34), and Samiha (30), who are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Magura and Jhenaidah.

Sub-Inspector Mahabub Hossain of Magura Ramnagar Highway Police Station said the van, coming from the opposite direction, was struck by the bus, causing the van driver to die instantly. The bus then veered off the road and fell into a roadside ditch.

Fire service personnel, with help from local residents, rescued the victims and rushed them to nearby hospitals.

Police have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident.
