3 killed in Barguna road crash
Three people, including a child, were killed in a collision between a Unique Paribahan bus that left Dhaka for Kuakata in Barguna's Amtoli upazila when a motorcycle and a Mahendra overturned (three-wheeler). The accident occurred in front of the Rahmania filling station in the Saheb Bazar area of Amtoli upazila on Tuesday (February 11) at around 2 pm.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Amtoli Police Station Md. Arifur Rahman confirmed the matter.
The deceased are - Abid (7), son of Himu Akon, a resident of Loda area of Chawra union of Amtoli upazila, the passenger of the Mahendra vehicle, Shahidul Islam (60) of Dala Chara area of Khekuani in Gulishakhali union, the motorcycle driver, and Atahar Gazi (60) of Bain Bunia area of Amtoli Sadar union.
According to police and local sources, a Unique Paribahan bus was heading towards Kuakata from Dhaka. When the bus reached the Saheb Bazar area of Kukua Union in Amtoli Upazila, it collided head-on with a passenger-laden Mahendra car coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the Mahendra car skidded off the road and hit another motorcycle behind the car. The motorcycle driver, Shahidul Islam, was killed on the spot. Later, the injured were rescued and taken to the Amtoli Upazila Health Complex, where Abid, the passenger in the Mahendra car, died. The doctor on duty sent one of the injured, Athar Gazi, to Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, but he died on the way.
In this regard, OC Md. Arifur Rahman said that upon receiving the information, the police quickly seized the deadly bus and brought it to the police station. However, it was not possible to arrest them as the driver and helper of the bus fled.
