3 killed in bus–motorcycle head-on collision in Chattogram

Three teenagers were killed and at least 20 people, including a child, were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Monday evening.

The accident occurred around 6:00pm at the Pelagazi Dighi intersection on the Chattogram–Khagrachhari regional highway.

The deceased were identified as Uttam Orang, 17, son of Yogez Orang; Nayan Orang, 17, son of Ram Orang; and Topu Orang, 17, son of Tapan Orang. All three were residents of Hazarikhil village under Harualchhari union in the upazila.

Uttam’s father, Yogez Orang, said the boys worked as helpers for masons while schools and colleges remained closed. “After finishing work, they were returning home, but today (monday) they came back as lifeless bodies,” he said.

Eyewitness Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the bus involved in the accident was returning to Boalkhali in Chattogram after attending a social event in Manikchhari. The bus collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and lost control, veering off the road on the western side.

The motorcycle riders were thrown onto the road with severe injuries. Local residents, police, and fire service personnel rescued the injured and took them to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex.

Officer-in-Charge of Nazirhat Highway Police, Md Shahabuddin, said police rushed to the scene after receiving the information and ensured that the injured were quickly taken to the hospital.

A doctor at the Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Mehedi, confirmed that three people had died in the accident. Among the 17 seriously injured victims, nine were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
