3 killed in bus-truck collision in Narail

Three people, including a police officer, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Narail. The accident occurred around 10:45 pm on Sunday at Bhangura Bazar area of Bagharpara upazila on the Narail-Jashore highway.

Narail Superintendent of Police Md Rabiul Islam confirmed the incident.

The deceased were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Nikkon Adhya (35) of Lahuria Investigation Centre under Lohagara Police Station in Narail, Akhtar Hossain of Basundia area in Jashore Sadar, and Abu Zafar of Vekutia in Jashore suburbs, a former joint secretary of the central committee of Swechchhasebak Dal.

According to police, a bamboo-laden truck was parked on the highway when a Dhaka-bound “Narail Express” bus lost control and rammed into the truck from behind. The front portion of the bus was smashed, and bamboos pierced into the vehicle. Akhtar Hossain died on the spot.

Abu Zafar and SI Nikkon Adhya sustained severe injuries and were first taken to Jashore General Hospital. Abu Zafar succumbed to his injuries there. Later, SI Nikkon was being shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, but his condition worsened on the way. He was then taken to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 12:30 am on Monday.
