3 killed in bus–truck collision in Shibchar, 15 injured
Three people were killed and at least 15 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar, Madaripur, on Tuesday morning at around 9:15am.
According to local sources, a passenger bus travelling on the Bhanga-bound lane rammed into a goods-laden truck from behind, leading to the accident. One person died at the scene, while two others later succumbed to injuries.
Pratap Das, a witness, said he was travelling in another vehicle when he saw the high-speed bus crash into the truck ahead with a loud bang. He said passengers at the front of the bus were likely the worst affected.
Shibchar Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Zahurul Islam confirmed the incident. He said three deaths have been reported so far. The injured have been sent to hospital. One body was recovered from the scene and two others died at the hospital.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
