3 killed in bus-truck head-on collision in Chandpur
Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a sand-laden truck on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway in Shahrasti on Tuesday, August 11. At least 15 others were injured in the accident, which occurred in the morning. The injured were rescued and taken to hospital.
According to locals, the Dhaka-bound bus of Al-Arafa Transport collided with a hydraulic sand-laden truck coming from the opposite direction in front of the Patwari house in the Baniachong area of Shahrasti upazila. It is initially believed that the bus went into the opposite lane while attempting to overtake, leading to the accident.
Both vehicles veered off the road after the collision, leaving several passengers of the bus injured. Fire service personnel and locals took part in the rescue operation after receiving news of the accident.
The injured were taken to Shahrasti Upazila Health Complex. Several of those undergoing treatment are in critical condition, according to eyewitnesses. The death toll may rise further.
Shahrasti Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mir Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the deaths of three people. He said the bus and truck veered off the road after the collision while overtaking. The cause of the accident is being investigated, and necessary legal action will be taken.
