3 killed in head-on collision of two buses in Mymensingh

Three people have been killed and at least eight injured in a head-on collision of two passenger buses in Mymensingh. The accident took place on the Mymensingh-Haluaghat road at Alalpur area of Sadar upazila around 6:30pm on Wednesday (September 2).

The deceased are Abdur Razzak, son of Hossain Ali of Dharapara village of Dhara Union of Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh; Tofazzal Hossain, 60, of Singheshwar village of Phulpur upazila; and an unidentified person of about 50 years.

Police and local sources informed that a passenger bus of Shamoli Bangla Paribahan was going towards Dhaka from Haluaghat. Around 6:30pm when the bus reached Alalpur area, it collided head-on with a bus of Imam Paribahan going towards Haluaghat from Dhaka.

The front parts of the two buses were crumpled in this. Abdur Razzak died at the accident site. At least eight people were injured. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared two more dead.

In-charge of the police camp of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Md. Al Amin said two of the six brought to the hospital in injured condition have died.

Sub-Inspector of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Jalal Uddin said getting the news, police went to the spot and normalised vehicular movement. The two buses have been seized. However, the drivers and helpers of the two buses have fled. Legal measures are under process in this incident.
