3 killed in mob lynching over cattle theft allegation in Gaibandha

Three men were beaten to death by a mob over allegations of cattle theft in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.

The incident took place at Nasirabad village under Katabari Union on early Sunday (November 2).

According to Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bulbul Islam, around 2:30am, the trio was caught stealing three cows from a villager’s barn. Locals chased them as they fled and jumped into a nearby pond. The mob later caught and severely beat them, killing two on the spot.

Police rescued the third man in critical condition and took him to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where he later died.

Locals claimed the victims were members of an organised cattle theft gang from Shibganj in Bogura.

"The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. The bodies are being kept at Gobindaganj Police Station and will be sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy," OC Bulbul Islam said.

"An investigation into this matter is underway. Legal action will follow after identification," he added.
