3 killed in pickup-CNG collision in Sunamganj
At least three people, including a CNG driver, were killed in a tragic road accident in Sunamganj on Friday morning (September 26).
The collision took place between a pickup van and a CNG auto-rickshaw on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway in the Pagla Bazar area of Shantiganj upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Keshba Priya, 40, a resident of Ukilpara in Sunamganj Municipality; her daughter Prothoma Chowdhury, a seventh-grade student at Satish Chandra Girls' High School; and Sajal Ghosh, 50, the driver of the auto-rickshaw.
According to local sources, a speeding pickup van collided head-on with the CNG, causing it to be crushed. The three victims died on the spot, and traffic on the highway was temporarily halted.
Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shantiganj Police Station, confirmed this, saying, "The pickup driver has been taken into custody."
"The bodies have been sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing," he added.
