The government has closed three unprofitable land ports on the Bangladesh-India border and suspended operations at another following a review of inactive facilities.

According to a Cabinet Division press release issued Thursday (August 28), the Advisory Council’s 40th meeting decided to shut down Chilahati, Daulatganj and Tegamukh land ports under the Ministry of Shipping, while suspending activities at Balla Land Port.

The move follows a high-level review ordered by Shipping Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, under which an inter-ministerial committee inspected eight non-functional and loss-making land ports.

The committee later submitted its report to the ministry.
