3 mortar shells found while digging road in Lakshmipur
Three unexploded mortar shells have been recovered while digging a road for laying water pipes in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur. Police recovered the shells on Wednesday (July 29) morning around 11:30 am from a road adjacent to the TNT office in the upazila.
According to locals and police sources, workers spotted suspicious iron objects while digging about four feet deep. Police were informed and later recovered the three mortar shells.
Police said each recovered mortar shell is approximately 14 inches in length and about 10 inches in thickness.
Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liton Dewan said the shells are being kept under police guard. The matter has been reported to the Superintendent of Police, and the bomb disposal unit has been informed. The unit will arrive at the scene and neutralise the mortar shells through controlled explosions at a safe location.
