3 of a family killed in road accident on Eid journey

Three members of the same family, including a child, were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle while they were heading home for the Eid holiday in Patgram upazila, Lalmonirhat.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning, March 17, in the Mirjarkot Model Mosque area of the upazila.

The deceased are Shariful Islam, 35, his wife and their son from Mansapur village in Alihaat union, Hakimpur upazila, Dinajpur district. His daughter has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque has confirmed the incident.

According to police and local sources, Shariful Islam worked at a private NGO in Patgram. On Tuesday morning, he set off on a motorcycle with his wife, son and daughter to return home for the Eid holiday. When they reached the Mirjarkot area in Patgram, a reckless truck coming from the opposite direction struck their motorcycle. Shariful Islam, his wife and son died instantly. His critically injured daughter was rescued and first taken to a local hospital, then later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The tragic accident on their way home for Eid has cast a shadow of grief over the area. Police have recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue for autopsy.
