3 of same family die by drowning in river in Dinajpur
Dulali Khatun, 23, was scheduled to leave for Dhaka on Friday to join a garment job to stand on her own feet. The bus ticket had also been bought and kept ready. On the previous day, she died by drowning after entering the nearby Mura Kal River to take a bath around 2pm on Thursday. Not only Dulali, but her younger sister Suravi Khatun, 13, and sister-in-law Sumaiya Akter, 19, also died by drowning along with her.
Their grandfather, Ataur Rahman, has been left speechless by the deaths of three members of the same family. A shadow of grief has descended upon the family.
The incident took place at Midnapore Bazar in Harirampur Union of the upazila.
Regarding the deaths of the three family members who drowned, grandfather Ataur Rahman said that just 7 days ago, his granddaughter Dulali Khatun had separated from her husband. Her father, Dulal Hossain, works in a garment factory in Dhaka. Dulali Khatun was supposed to go to Dhaka taking her younger sister Suravi Khatun, an eighth-grade student, along with her on Friday. Tickets had also been bought and kept ready for them. They went to take a bath in the Mura Kal River near their house and drowned on Thursday noon.
He presumes that they might have entered the dead river to pluck water lilies, and the accident occurred while trying to save one another.
Motiar Rahman, who rescued them, said, "Upon receiving the news, the villagers went into the water and recovered the three of them dead. Some of their clothes were lying on the river bank. Since there were no eyewitnesses, the actual incident cannot be understood."
Local UP Chairman Mojahedul Islam Sohag said, "This is a heartbreaking incident. The bodies of three members of the same family have been recovered. Since the family is poor, preparations for their burial are underway on behalf of the Union Parishad."
Inspector Uzzal Kumar of the Maddhapara Police Investigation Center said, "The bodies of three women from the same family have been recovered. Based on the family's application, the bodies have been handed over without an autopsy."
Parbatipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Saddam Hossain said, "Fifty thousand taka has been given to the deceased's family. The upazila administration stands beside the family."
