Three senior police officials, including former Chattogram Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Noor-e Alam Mina, has been suspended for unauthorised absence from duty over an extended period.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued separate suspension orders on Tuesday (July 1) through the Police-1 branch of its Public Security Division, citing prolonged absence as a breach of service discipline under the Government Service Rules, 2018.

According to the official notification, Noor-e Alam Mina, currently posted as DIG at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, has been absent from duty without approval since February 9.

Also suspended is Manas Kumar Poddar, who is attached to the DIG office of Barishal Range and previously served as Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) under Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He has been missing from duty since October 18, 2023.

The third officer, Md Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police at Gazipur Industrial Police-2, has been absent since February 10 this year.

As per Rule 12(1) and Rule 3(c) of the Government Service Rules, 2018, the officers have been officially classified as absconders and suspended from the date of their absence. During the suspension period, they will receive food allowances.

This move comes shortly after the suspension of 13 police officers on June 26 for similar violations, including three Superintendents of Police (SPs), eight Additional SPs, and two Assistant SPs.

The repeated disciplinary actions highlight growing concerns over internal accountability and chain-of-command issues within the police force, particularly following the fall of the previous government on August 5 last year.
