3 women killed after being hit by train in Gazipur
Three women, including a grandmother and granddaughter, were killed after being hit by a train in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur.
The deceased are - Sadia Begum,24, wife of Mobarak Hossain of Dewalertek village of Ward No. 1 of Kaliganj Municipality, Kamala Begum, 55, resident of Morjal area of Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi, and her granddaughter Anadi Akhter, 13.
The accident occurred in Tekpara area, east of Arikhola Railway Station on Thursday (December 25) afternoon.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Md. Zakir Hossain confirmed the incident and said that a force was sent to the spot after receiving the information. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
According to railway and police sources, the Noakhali bound Coastal Express train from Dhaka was passing Arikhola Railway Station around 5 pm. At that time, the Kamala, Anadi and their neighbour Sadia Begum were out for a walk together and were inadvertently run over by the train. Kamala and Sadia
both died on the spot while locals rescued Anadi Akhter in a seriously injured condition and took her to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Kaliganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Obaidul Haque said that since it was a railway-related accident, the bodies were handed over to the family members in coordination with the Railway Police.
Railway Narsingdi Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Dilip Chandra Sarkar said that the bodies were examined at the spot. Since the identities of the deceased were confirmed and in view of the family's request, the bodies were handed over without post-mortem with the permission of the higher authorities.
Ziaur Rahman, a doctor from the emergency department of Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, said that Anadi Akhter died before she was brought to the hospital.
