3 workers die after entering septic tank in Munshiganj

Three workers died Sunday afternoon after descending into a septic tank at a construction site in Munshiganj town.

The incident took place in the Khalist area near Borobazar, at a house being built by Singapore expatriate Sabuj Kazi. The deceased have been identified as Shahin Islam (28), Firoz Mia (18), and Mohammad Ibrahim (25).

According to police and fire service officials, one worker entered the septic tank to secure its cover but was overcome by toxic gas inside. Two others went down to rescue him but also lost consciousness. The fire service was alerted and arrived quickly to ventilate the tank and recover the three workers, who were pronounced dead on the spot.

Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the team responded swiftly but the workers had already died by the time help arrived.

Authorities are investigating the incident, highlighting the need for improved safety protocols at construction sites.
